So fitting of this seasons end of music at the Jones Beach Band Shell tonight... Thank You Irene and LIPA for the non event... Tonight was to be the band Beginnings...A Tribute band to Chicago that would have ended the Summer Concert Series with a bit of joy in the air... But no... The Board walk was dark and full of music lovers to have a last night our sweet beach... Well, this will pass a season that tried to make many happy, smile and maybe learn about the grace of God who gave us all this beauty... We move in the Fall and quieter times along the board walk... That’s is also very cool as we gain back out beach for reflection to walk and run about... See you in 2012 God willing...smilies/grin.gifsmilies/grin.gifsmilies/grin.gif

One of my favorite parts of Friday nights is watching the guy that plays 2 guitars at the same time after the concerts. He's been on the field 4 walkway for years and in my opinion, adds a nice finishing touch to both good and bad nights at the beach. Just giving acknowledgement to the unsung musician.

Watch out for Courtney Gallagher tonight! This girl has got pipes and has great stage presence. If she ever gets on TV for the real American Idol, definite high prospect potential.

Ha just kidding about the drummer thought I left this part in my post but I see its not there. I am a drummer as well and its so uncomfortable being out from the kit. He was actually one of the best drummers I seen in a while. Well show was great again.

The John Lennon show this weekend was off the hook. Those guys sounded real good. I like the way they had different singers for each song. Some voices were better than others but all passed ok. The music was really nice some of the leads and fills were blowing my mind. Most tempos were good a few too fast. The guy in the middle and the guy that was all the way left sounded best. The song choices were good I cant think of anything I was left wanting to hear. They were a bands band which is good because I am a harsh critic. One guy just should tone down the loungue act. Overall I give it a 9+.

On 8/12, I went to the Band-shell concert (late) and the band that was setting up was "Rad Company" (I believe), a "Bad Company" tribute band. I don't know who played first, but with what I read below, maybe the Brothers of the Road was replaced with Rad Company. The music was great - and they interacted well with the audience and got them in a good mood.
I just went for rock & roll, not any particular band.

Just as the Red Sea parted for the children of God back in the day, so did the clouds over Jones Beach last night. As the storm was fast approaching from the west it parted as it grew closer to Long Island. What was was south over water was dark storm clouds and what was north was the same. We at the band shell did not have one drop of rain for this concert last night... The evening was a statement in prayer and for taking a stand for the hope and love of Jesus Christ. The many faithful who came (although is was pouring where they lived) were blessed by the messages and songs. This was victory for the kingdom and blow to enemy who tried in vain to stop the Arise New York Long Island concert from happening...

The concert may start a bit late, but we are determined to bring the messages and songs to the the Jones Beach Band Shell on this evening....o

I am very upset Brothers of the Road was cancelled, due to lack of funds. We pay enough taxes, what the hell. Don't the lawmakers know when times are bad we need a place to go to let off steam. We feel bad enough with out this.

How come someone doesn't update the events schedule poster/list to reflect what bands are actually playing there?
Evolution and Rocket Man (And Brothers of the road Allman Brothers tribute have all been pulled due to price cuts).
People don't even know who's playing there anymore!

I'm so upset they cancelled Fridays and Saturdays. I feel the worst for the poor women who work in the offices because I've stopped in there and they get belittled by these people who go to see the shows! If they don't have copies of the schedule, that's the fault of J & B, not the park office. These events are run by J & B and they are always very good....this is so unprofessional that they just cancel left and right out of the blue with almost no notice. It's unfair to the public, and it's also unfair to the park workers. People, your voices need to be heard. If you are unhappy about this, you should call J & B and let them know. These concerts get tons of support from local LIers and it's a great thing for the community.

Big thanks to Bob Blickwede of Jones Beach Events for scheduling so many awesome bands during the past few years. Some of my fondest memories are of rocking out at bandshell concerts & enjoying them so much that I shared many of the songs played on YouTube and Facebook. So I am especially disappointed that the scheduled shows I was most looking forward to ~ Aug 26 & 27 featuring Evolution the Journey Tribute and Rocketman the Elton John tribute have been cancelled because J&B Restaurant Partners has cancelled the artist budget for Fri and Sat nights in Aug/Sept. Band members who have long commutes down to LI will no longer get expenses paid for traveling hundreds of miles (one way) to get here. They shouldn't have to spend their own money to play a show. It's not fair to the bands, especially high quality professionals like Evolution and Rocketman! If they're not playing that weekend, I will not be at Jones Beach. I hope J&B will reconsider. Last year's Evolution concert drew thousands of people and no doubt made J&B's food vendors lots of money. All musicians are not equally talented & charismatic & replacing these two powerhouse bands with "anyone who's local and will play for free" is not only unfair but bad business. If this message doesn't post, my friends on and offline will know why.

why does it seem to be impossible for any of the NYC area beaches or parks to post reliable information about concerts and other events? from one website to the other, the date a particular band is supposed to play differs (e.g., el gran combo). absolutely impossible to make plans with on a particular date with out of town guests.

i was looking forward to a great nite of live music by a great long island local band, i have caught "wonderous stories " at the bandshell with my family for the last 4 years, i enjoy live bands especially without having to go to a bar to see them, i love long island, i've been going to jones beach since i was a kid in the 1960's, i love summer, and i always look forward to the free friday nite concert series, the depressed economy made the concert series even more apporeciated than ever, i hope the future ones are still happening.

I drove all the way to Jone's Beach on Friday night to see Wonderous Stories only to find that the concert was cancelled ... after asking a lot of questions I came to find out that there was a big fight during last Sunday's "Latin Night" event and that was the reason they cancelled this Friday's show ... I have been coming to the Friday night tribute band shows for many years and the crowd is always happy and in a great mood ... thanks to the great efforts of Fingers and WBAB !! ... never once did I see a problem no matter how many people show up ... if the State Park is considering cancelling anything it should be only Latin Night because that is where the problem was ! ... Please leave our awesome Friday and Saturday night shows just the way they are !!!

I drove an hour with my daughter and her friends for a swim and to see a set of Wonderous Stories at the bandshell on Friday. No concert..just rumours of a knee jerk cancellation of all future events due to some problem that happened at a previous event.
If that's true, it's pretty disrespectful to the public.
You can't advertise a whole month of events and just scrap it like that..
There's still nothing on the website indicating the cancellation. Very unprofessional.
If more security is needed..then that's something to take care of. If you have to charge us a buck more a beer..so be it!

My husband and I have been to dozens of bandshell shows and NEVER was there a problem caused by "Too Many People" (ironically Wonderous Stories was going to do a Paul McCartney tribute tonight!) As far as people clogging up the boardwalk... a roped off "path" behind the bandshell and a few well placed security guards would solve that quite nicely.

Well, let's review what has been happening... The Boardwalk is a "BOARDWALK" for pedestrians right of way and setting up tables, chairs, benches across is well...DUMB!!! There have been plenty of bench seats in the pit that went unused almost every night. In side the pit over 800 people can be seated (floor and benches) if the "I Need MY Space" rule was not in full effect. Back in the day, sitting next to someone you did not know at a concert was considered making a friend... Today... Give me the 3 foot rule is in full effect... Let's look at these great music happenings going forward of what should be a nice evening out for all instead of "I HAVE MY CLAIM AND PATCH HERE" ... Don't not blame the NY park police and NY State for the actions of a few who have made it a mess for all....

Perhaps there should be some sort of rotation of the acts chosen yearly... Perhaps some people, like me, LOVE that same "DEAD" band or "STONES" band every year! and what about the "BROTHERS" and "VAN HALEN"!!!!? I WANT to hear them! Either way people, MUST WE COMPLAIN????? Maybe you should just find something else to do on those nights you find the entertainment to be "boring" or whatever! I LOVE MY FREE FRIDAY NIGHTS AT THE BEACH!!!!

Hi. I'm Doreen Pinkerton, and I have just finished a CD with Tate Music Group, coming out March 29. I am looking forward to singing these contemporary Christian songs in many states, and hope I can come here and perform. i play flute, piano, guitar, and enjoyed writing these songs for you. I am a singer for all my days, and grew up on Long Island, attending Bayshore Assembly of God as a youth, and Smithtown Gospel Tabernacle, where I was married. I also sang in the choir one year at Upper Room Ministries. I attended Oral Roberts University and was on a music scholarship for two years. Lookin forward to one day singing for you all! tatemusicgroup.com, go to "store" and click, and hit "Show Me the Way" or "Doreen Pinkerton". Proceeds on my end will go to help the Alpha Omega Honduras Children's Home where my husband and I (md and rn) do medical mission work).

It's Thursday July 29 and the schedule for August is not on the site. Last night I was at the bandshell thinking its going to be the last night for the season - Fusion Night - and thnak god the MS announced that she will be there again next wednesday. So I went up to her said isn't this your last night? She replied NO I am here every Wednesday night until Labor day. I would of missed out the rest of summer if she did not say anything. Are the other schedule remaining the same like July? People cannot see your mind you need to post the schedule so that we know.

Well i guess its like the last commentor wrote if your not a friend or 'connection' of bobs you can not play here--its a shame we only gotta see the same old cover bands that have been re-treading here the last 6 years---meanwhile there are a few excellent 'original' bands that are from here that can pack the place out---i have nothing against these cover bands personally and are friends w/ the majority of 'em that play here--but we need new blood--new hard rockin' bands if you will, that can bring back this current local staggering rock scene---bandshell bob its time to wake up and stop being a puppet for the corporate sponsors & management ---instead listen to what the people want to see here--it would make a much stronger rock scene---not this pathetic entertainment shell---the people have spoken

If Oldies night is Oldies night, why don't you get a genuine oldies band like The Tribunes, Time Was, The Clusters, The Expressions or Third Edition, or something such as that. When I hear an event be sponsored by WCBS oldies night, it should be oldies for us "seniors".

We also are hoping you bring back that girl Kayla Starr who covered some great oldies songs. We saw her perform last August and she packed the bandshell!

Hoping to see some other acts besides the same old ones every week!
